LONNIE MAJOR GREW UP IN NEW YORK CITY. AT THE AGE OF 6 HE WAS GIVEN HIS FIRST CAMERA AND SOON STARTED TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS AT FAMILY EVENTS. HIS PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY CONTINUED THROUGH HIS ADOLESCENCE AND TEEN YEARS AND HE WENT ON TO HONE HIS SKILLS AT THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS. IN THE EARLY 90s, HE MET LEGENDARY SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHER TONY DUFFY, FOUNDER OF ALL SPORTS USA PHOTO AGENCY, WHO BECAME HIS MENTOR. WITH DUFFY'S ENCOURAGEMENT, AT THE AGE OF 1 9, MAJOR BEGAN SHOOTING SPORTS EVENTS. AT AGE 20 HE SIGNED AS A SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHER WITH ALL SPORTS USA, NOW OWNED BY GETTY IMAGES. AFTER SPENDING SEVEN YEARS UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYES OF DUFFY, MAJOR TOOK A POSITION WITH TOPPS INC., THE NATION'S NO. 1 SPORTS TRADING CARD COMPANY. WHILE AT TOPPS, HE FINE-TUNED HIS CRAFT AS A PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER, PHOTOGRAPHING SOME OF THE COUNTRY'S TOP ATHLETES. MAJOR'S WORK HAS APPEARED IN FORBES MAGAZINE, INC MAGAZINE, THE NEW YORK TIMES, PEOPLE, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, ESPN, EBONY, JET, ESSENCE, THE SOURCE, TV GUIDE, SPORTS MAGAZINE, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, NEW YORK POST, SCHOLASTIC, US WEEKLY, RUNNER'S MAGAZINE, TRACK AND FIELD NEWS, WOMAN'S WEAR DAILY, UPTOWN MAGAZINE, AND THE LOS ANGELES TIMES. SPECIALIZING IN PEOPLE AND PORTRAITS, HE'S TRAVELED AROUND THE COUNTRY SHOOTING FOR BLACK ENTERPRISE MAGAZINE - MOST RECENTLY RECEIVING AN INVITATION TO THE WHITE HOUSE TO PHOTOGRAPH PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA IN THE OVAL OFFICE.
